'Year 1 of Rome'
Lot 625
SYRIA. Uncertain. AE (Bronze, 21 mm, 8.52 g, 1 h), Year 1 of the Pompeian Era = 64/3 BC. Draped bust of Herakles to left, holding club over his left shoulder. Rev. L A / PΩMH Prow to right; all within wreath. HGC 10, 381. Spijkerman 1 ('Gadara'). Rare. Good fine.

Where this enigmatic issue was struck is unclear: Spijkerman attributed it to Gadara, but as it carries no ethnic, all we can say for now is that it was struck in the first year of the newly introduced 'Pompeian' era, which the reverse legend calls 'Year 1 of Rome'
